Homemade Spaghetti Sauce

We have set up our herb garden and it's become quite handy in the kitchen. One evening I was cooking spaghetti and realized that I was out of spaghetti sauce. I wasn't sure what we were going to do until Nick suggested I try making my own sauce. By  following a simple recipe found on-line, I was able to use some of our herbs and was successful in making my very own spaghetti sauce. Ever since then I have been trying out new recipes and now make my own sauce every time we have spaghetti. :)

Residing

We had a surprise project come up that we were not anticipating for another couple of years. Upon purchasing our home, we knew there would come a time to reside our house. Last weekend, we discovered that two panels were getting drenched by one of our sprinklers and the wood was starting to rot. We knew that we had to replace the siding ASAP before any termites found the rotting boards.Thankfully Nick knew what to do and spent the day residing our home.We are planning to reside the whole house using concrete siding later in life but for now we are very thankful that we were able to repair the "small" area that allows us to buy a little more time.

ACF

Nick visiting the Meat booth for some free bacon samples!

Sporting my new Walking Tree Farms t-shirt

We got a chance to travel up to Orlando to attend the American Culinary Federation Chefs Convention located in the Marriott World Center Convention Center. It was a great convention that allowed us to meet chefs from all around the world and spread the name of Walking Tree Farms. Our clams were offered as samples and were given great reviews! It was a neat experience that we are so thankful to have been given the opportunity to take part of.

Bargain Gardening

We learned a hard lesson about the necessity for drainage. We noticed that our caladiums did not come up this year like they did last year. The bed was full of weeds and the few caladiums that did come up were brown and about 6inches in height. Turns out our caladiums had too much water due to the lack of drainage in the flower bed. When we pulled out the caladium bulbs we discovered they were very large but had rotted so we had to tear out the bed. :(
This weekend, we were blessed with a solution when we made a quick stop at Lowes and discovered that one of our favorite flowers were clearance down to $5 and that Marigolds were being sold for $1 a dozen. We decided to take advantage of this flower sale and ended up getting all the flowers we needed for about $22. Usually this project would have cost up to $100- What a bargain! We made a day out of redoing our front bed and we are happy with the amount of cheerfulness it has brought to the front of our home. :)

Ruellia

We were excited to hear that our Ruellia order had come in while we were on vacation. We were looking for something to put in front of the chicken wire to hid the chicken run a little better. Orchid Island Botanicals helped us find the perfect solution and we are very pleased with the end result. :)

I am excited to present the new logo for Walking Tree Farms! As most of you know, Nick is now part owner of a new company (which is a division of Scientific Associates) that specialize in selling high quality Pine Island Sound clams. Texas 2012

We got to spend a week in Texas visiting family, celebrating Nick's birthday, and being a part of my childhood friend's wedding. It was a nice vacation for us and we are so thankful to have had the opportunity to spend time with our family. Thank you for such a fun and memorable trip!
