Shake your tailfeathers

Our chicks are almost a month old now.

These were the chicks about a week or 2 old.
These were the chicks about a day or 2 old.

Our chicks are quickly growing. They are no longer fuzzy and have begun growing their new feathers. We are slowing shrinking our group down to 3 but in the mean time we are enjoying having all of them around.

Blood, sweat, and tears (of joy)

Leveling out the yard.

Halfway there!

We are so excited to present to you our new backyard! It has been over 3 years and 6 months that we started this journey and we have spent our weekends working hard to reach this pivotal point in our backyard renovation. We decided to put Empire Zoysia grass in our backyard because it feels wonderful on your feet and works well in our area. (FYI: Zoysia is commonly used in golf courses.) We spent all weekend laying down sod and are extremely content with our results.
Our backyard is still not fully complete and we will continue to work on improving our backyard, but at this moment, we will be taking a little home improvement vacation to not only enjoy our new backyard but some upcoming fall trips! :)

Life of a Clam Farmer

I got the chance to join Nick for a day of work. We layered up for a cold day where we spent several hours bagging clams in a refrigerated room. We were happy to be able to put our winter clothes to good use in the middle of summer.  It was a fun experience and it turns out I was a natural clam bagger. :)

Chicks part II

The Vander Sys' are at it again! We have brought home a dozen chicks to help raise them until they are too big to keep. We will be keeping 3 of them to add to our flock. We are excited to try out these girls because they lay blueish and dark brown eggs. Stay tuned for some colorful posts come next spring!
